How it works
- We fetch the page the way a social network's crawler does and read the Open Graph and Twitter tags, plus the title, description and favicon.
- The og:image is fetched too, so we know whether it exists, how big it is and whether it is the right shape.
- Each network's card is drawn from those values with its own rules — what it truncates, what it falls back to.
- You get the tags that are missing or weak, prefilled with the page's own text, ready to paste.
Questions people ask
What size should og:image be?
1200 × 630 pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio) works everywhere; keep it under 5 MB, ideally under 1 MB. Smaller than 600 × 315 and Facebook shows a small square thumbnail instead of the big card.
I changed the tags but the network still shows the old card. Why?
They cache. Facebook and LinkedIn each have a debugger that re-scrapes on demand — the links are below the previews. X and Slack refresh on their own, usually within a day.
Do I need Twitter tags as well as Open Graph?
X reads Open Graph as a fallback, but only shows the large image card when twitter:card is set to summary_large_image. One extra tag, big difference.
Why does Slack show no image?
Slack needs the image to be reachable without cookies or a login, served over HTTPS, and declared with an absolute URL. A relative path in og:image is the usual culprit.
